KCC mayor urges businessmen not hoarding essentials during Ramadan

KHULNA, March 11, 2024 (BSS) - Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC)
Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Sunday urged the businessmen not hoarding
essential commodities during the month of Holy Ramadan.

"Businessmen should make a smooth supply of essential commodities and to keep
their prices stable during the Ramadan," he said in a view-exchange meeting
with the businessmen at Shahid Altaf auditorium of the KCC.

"Illegal stockpiling of essentials won't be allowed in Ramadan. Strict action
will be taken if anyone is found involved in any kind of activities related
to stockpiling illegally," Khaleque said.

The meeting also discussed how the market could be kept free from all sorts
of immoral trends of hiking the prices of essential commodities during the
Ramadan through concerted efforts.

Chaired by KCC mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, the meeting was addressed,
among others, by Chief Executive Officer of the KCC Laskar Tajul Islam, its
Secretary Sanjida Begum, Additional Police Commissioner Mst. Taslima Khatun,
representatives of Khulna Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), Councilors
of the KCC, Presidents and Secretaries of different business associations and
different meat and kitchen market traders.

Stressing the need for showing the prices-list of essentials, the KCC mayor
urged the businessmen to run their business without any fear and anxiety side
by side with keeping themselves free from hoarding, excessive profit and
cheating consumers.

The government is pledge-bound to build a sound market management, especially
during the Ramadan, aiming at rendering quality services to the people and
urged all to supplement the government efforts, he mentioned.

The mayor fixed cow meat at Taka 725 per kilogram (Kg) and mutton at Taka
1,050 per kg at the meeting and said the authorities and individuals
concerned should play a responsible role so nobody could raise the prices of
essentials illegally and unethically during the Holy month.
