CCCI invites Hong Kong businesses to invest in Chattogram region

DHAKA, April 24, 2024 (BSS) - Senior Economist of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Gary Ng today met with the leaders of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at its office at the World Trade Center in the port city.

CCCI president Omar Hajjaj, Hong Kong Trade Development South Asia Consultant Mitra Dave and CCCI directors were present, among others, on the occasion, said a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, CCCI president Omar Hajjaj said that the government has already taken initiative for setting up some 100 special economic zones across the country for expediting industrialization. Besides, the government has also made Chattogram as an attractive destination for investment through massive infrastructural development also to turn the port city as the logistics and economic hub in South Asia.

Hajjaj also called upon the Hong Kong businesses to invest in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, blue economy, agro processing and footwear sectors alongside building ships for fishing in the deep sea.

Senior Economist of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Gary Ng said that Bangladesh has turned into a rising economic nation in South Asia while it has a huge market considering its population.

He informed that they are identifying the potential sectors of Bangladesh for making investment while discussions were also held in this regard with the different chambers, associations and private sector businesses of Bangladesh.

CCCI directors urged the Hong Kong investors and businessmen to jointly invest in the country's higher technology in agricultural sector, food processing, toys and furniture industry.
