Dr Farashuddin for alleviating poverty thro industrialization

DHAKA, May 16, 2024 (BSS) - Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin today laid emphasis on taking steps to alleviate poverty through industrialization.

"I am not a big economist. However, I think, instead of poverty alleviation in the conventional way, steps should be taken to alleviate poverty through industrialization," he said.

Dr Farashuddin was addressing a book launching ceremony titled "Bangladesh's Future Development: Agenda for Reform" at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) in the city.

BIDS and East West University organised the event. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin is the author of the book.

Chairman of the Economic Research Group (ERG) Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, and Vice-Chancellor of East West University Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, among others, spoke on the occasion.

In his speech, Farashuddin said Bangladesh has come a long way. The book has been written to tell everyone what to do and what not to do, he added.

If the size of the GDP, he said, is from US$60 billion to $460 billion dollars, if the per capita income is increase, then the revenue income should also increase.
