DHAKA, May 26, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 61.55 points or 1.15 percent to 5,250.85. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 18.98 points to finish at 1,888.72 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 13.06 points to close at 1,146.47.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 3,227.54 million, which was Taka 5,080.03 million at the previous session of the week.
Out of 382 issues traded, 322 declined, 31 advanced and 29 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
ORIONPHARM topped the turnover chart, followed by BATBC, LOVELLO, UNILEVERCL and RELIANCE1.
SAMORITA was the day's top gainer, posting 6.55 percent gain while NATLIFEINS was the worst loser, losing 8.79 per cent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 170.41 points to settle at 15,232.96 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 101.92 points to close at 9,162.95.
Of the issues traded, 165 declined, 24 advanced and 21 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city's bourse traded 29.03 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 8.31 crore.
