Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange 
(DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today plunged due to mainly price 
fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 14.81 
points or 0.26 percent to 5,685.78. Two other indices also ended sharply 
lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 0.66 point to 
finish at 2,087.47 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 3.90 points to close 
at 1,217.09.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 7,502.40 
million, which was Taka 5,580.33 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 395 issues traded, 231 declined, 131 advanced and 33 remained 
unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

OLYMPIC topped the turnover chart, followed by GP, ORIONPHARM, BRACBANK and 
MJLBD.
 
NATLIFEINS was the day's top gainer, posting 9.96 percent gain while 
ISLAMIBANK was the worst loser, losing 3.85 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All 
Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 106.96 points to settle at 16,268.81 and 
the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 64.42 points to close at 
9,800.08.

Of the issues traded, 151 declined, 53 advanced and 15 issues remained 
unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 1.14 crore shares and mutual fund units with 
turnover value worth about Taka 222.90 crore.
