Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 25.66 points or 0.44 percent to 5,803.71. Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 5.27 points to finish at 2,134.11 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 9.08 points to close at 1,236.47.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 10655.44 million, which was Taka 9,336.32 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 397 issues traded, 291 declined, 80 advanced and 26 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BRACBANK topped the turnover chart, followed by BATBC, OLYMPIC, MJLBD and RENATA.
 
BDLAMPS was the day's top gainer, posting 9.71 percent gain while SONALIPAPR was the worst loser, losing 9.96 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 13.92 points to close at 10,002.30.

Of the issues traded, 156 declined, 79 advanced and 24 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city's bourse traded 43.86 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 16.20 crore.
