Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 17.19 points or 0.30 percent to 5,786.52. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, also followed the same trend with 1.02 point down at 2,133.09. But, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 1 point up at 1,237.48.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 7,265.05 million, which was Taka 10,655.44 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 398 issues traded, 258 declined, 102 advanced and 38 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BRAC Bank topped the turnover chart, followed by OLYMPIC, GP, GPHISPAT and LOVELLO.
 
BANGAS was the day's top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while NEWLINE was the worst loser, losing 9.77 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 91.33 points to settle at 16,501.42 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 52.54 points to close at 9,949.76.

Of the issues traded, 151 declined, 58 advanced and 15 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 62.27 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 31.67 crore.
