DHAKA, Sept 24, 2024 (BSS) - Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today sought Canadian support in the areas of technology transfer and investment to develop the country’s economy.

“Bangladesh has a big domestic market and investment and industry-friendly policy, plan and environment. As a result, domestic and foreign investment in Bangladesh is increasing gradually,” he said.

The adviser made the remarks in a meeting with Canadian Charge d'Affaires in Dhaka Debra Boyce at the Ministry of Industries in the city, said a press release.

During the meeting, Adilur informed that an agreement on investment insurance was signed between Bangladesh and Canada on July 12, 1990.

He laid emphasis on signing the draft agreement titled 'Agreement between Bangladesh and Canada for The Promotion and Protection of Investments' through a joint technical committee.

Debra Boyce informed the adviser that the Canadian investors are eager to invest more in Bangladesh. “For this, the main investment areas are being identified. The existing agreement between Bangladesh and Canada needs to be updated as soon as possible,” he added.

The Canadian envoy expressed interest to work closely by forming a joint team with Bangladesh and Canada.

Among others, Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana also spoke on the occasion.
