Stocks extend losing streak

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2024 (BSS) - Stocks today extended its losing streak as the risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 43.72 points down and settled at 5,335.06 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 22.09 points to finish at 1,942.22 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 1.47 point down to close at 1,189.39.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 3,665.53 million on the premier bourse, which was Taka 3,681.89 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 396 issues traded, 288 closed lower, 53 remained higher and 55 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

MIDLANDBNK became the most-traded stock, followed by AGNISYSL, Islami Bank, BRACBANK and LOVELLO.

Islami Bank was the day's top gainer, soaring 4.69 per cent while NTC was the worst loser, losing 8.74 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 154.50 points to settle at 15,012.75 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 88.13 points to close at 9,115.52.

Of the issues traded, 122 declined, 47 advanced and 26 issues remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse traded 18.86 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 5.79 crore.
