Stocks continue losing streak

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2024 (BSS) - Stocks today extended its losing streak as the risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 7.58 points down and settled at 5,365.96 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 5.79 points to finish at 1,963.73 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 3.78 points down to close at 1,195.36.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 3,180.61 million on the premier bourse, which was Taka 3,507.33 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 398 issues traded, 252 closed lower, 96 remained higher and 50 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

AGNISYSL became the most-traded stock, followed by LOVELLO, TECHNODRUG, ISLAMIBANK and BRACBANK.

ISLAMIBANK was the day's top gainer, soaring 5.04 per cent while GHCL was the worst loser, losing 9.68 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 47.15 points to settle at 15,047.65 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 24.46 points to close at 9,143.73.

Of the issues traded, 111 declined, 42 advanced and 32 issues remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse traded 1.63 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 82.08 million.
