DHAKA, Nov 12, 2024 (BSS) - Adviser to the interim government on the Ministry of Commerce Sk. Bashir Uddin today said that Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Japan would brighten the bilateral trade potentials.
He also said this would open up a new door of potential before Bangladesh.
The Commerce Adviser said this when Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori met him at his office at the Secretariat here today.
During the meeting, they discussed issues in detail relating to EPA, FTA, and trade and commerce situation of the two countries.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is a country of promising economy, Bashir said that Bangladesh would be able to make a strong position in global trade if FTA is signed with Japan.
Noting that the bilateral relationship with Japan has reached a standard of transparency and trust, he said that such relations would be firm in the future through boosting trade and commerce.
The Commerce Adviser also said that the interim government wants to tap the potential of the country by ensuring good governance.
Japanese Ambassador Kiminori said that Bangladesh enjoys a long-standing friendship with Japan and such ties would be further deepened with the expansion of trade and commerce.
He also opined that both countries can enjoy trade related benefits through discussion.
Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin was present on the occasion.
