RANGPUR, Nov 14, 2024 (BSS) - For the convenience of common consumers, the authorities concerned today launched selling of potato at Taka 45 per kg making the buyers happy in Rangpur city.
The district administration and the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) have taken this initiative in collaboration with Pran Agro Limited.
Under the programme, cardinal variety of potato, which is being sold at Taka 60 to 62 per kg in the local market, is being sold at a fair price of Taka 45 per kg to common consumers.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal inaugurated the program in a simple function held at 'Prajanmo Chattar' in front of Zilla School in the city as the chief guest.
Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director (additional charge) of the DNCRP Afsana Parveen presided over the function.
Assistant Director of DNCRP Borhan Uddin, General Manager of Pran Agro Limited Zakaria Hossain, its Senior Manager Rafiqul Islam and Management Trainee Officer Krishibid Riyad Khan and President of Rangpur CAB Abdur Rahman were present.
After purchasing three kilograms of potato at Taka 135, consumer Sekendar Ali of Darshana Mour area in Rangpur city expressed happiness saying that he got a huge relief getting potato at a cheaper rate.
Golam Kibria of Panbazar area in Sadar upazila said that the price of Cardinal variety of potato in the local market is currently ranging between Taka 60 and Taka 65 per kg.
"Being able to buy potatoes for Taka 45 per kg has been a huge saving for me," Kibria said.
Pran Agro Limited General Manager Zakaria Hossain said a buyer can buy a maximum of three kg of potatoes under this program
"Efforts will be made to continue this program of selling potatoes at a fair price until the price in the market reaches a tolerable level. Potato sales will start every day from 10 am," he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that buyers will be able to buy potatoes at affordable prices from designated shops every day of the week.
"Initially, a target of selling 1,000 sacks (50 kg per sack) of potatoes has been set. If necessary, it will be increased further," he added.
