DHAKA, Dec 03, 2024 (BSS) – European Union (EU) has expressed its keenness to cooperate by providing logistic support and expert manpower to quickly bring back money laundered from Bangladesh.
EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation to Bangladesh Michael Miller said this while paying a courtesy call on Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin at his office in the city, said a press release.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues, including mutual cooperation, implementation of International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention and bringing back laundered money.
Bashir Uddin said Bangladesh fully respects the ILO Convention and the country has a clear roadmap for implementation of the convention.
“Bangladesh has a large population. Most of them are young people. Our goal is to make them into a skilled workforce and achieve economic liberation for the country by utilizing the energy of youth,” he added.
Mentioning that the government is working on keeping the supply chain of daily necessities running, he said the prices of several products have already come down.
“The government has cut duties on many products to reduce prices,” he added.
Michael Miller said that the free trade agreement will play a role in increasing trade and commerce between EU and Bangladesh.
He also expressed his expectation that foreign direct investment from Europe to Bangladesh will increase, if the investment environment improves.
Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md Abdur Rahim Khan was present on the occasion.
