DHAKA, Dec 8, 2024 (BSS) - Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin has urged the members of Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) to work diligently for delivering better services and fostering competitiveness.
"Chartered Secretaries play a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of a Board's governance and it is essential for the new members to be well-prepared to deliver the service," he said.
The commerce secretary said this while speaking as the chief guest at a reception programme for the newly registered members of the Institute at a hotel in the city on Saturday, said a press release today.
Thirty-Seven (37) qualified members who became associate members were accorded a warm reception by the Institute.
The reception programme began with an introductory speech on ICSB and its brief history by Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ICSB Md Zakir Hossain and congratulated the new members of ICSB.
Chairman of Membership and Registration Committee Oli Kamal delivered a welcome address and discussed the importance of Chartered Secretaries in the professional world.
He also said that newly registered Members' knowledge, skill and integrity will be tested not only in the examination halls but also in the highly competitive and challenging work environment.
He also mentioned that this is high time to establish good governance in Bangladesh.
On behalf of the newly registered members, two associate members- Md Mehedi Hasan and Nazzam Ali Khan expressed their deepest gratitude and thanked to the teachers and senior members of ICSB.
They said that without their support it would have been difficult for them to become Chartered Secretaries.
They also mentioned that learning from ICSB would surely add value to their career.
Selim Uddin welcomed and congratulated all the new members of ICSB on this memorable day.
In his address, he mentioned that new members are not only valuable assets to Bangladesh but also have the potential to provide their service globally.
He encouraged the new members to be updated on the current global exercise, best practices and guidelines, underscoring the importance of continuous learning and professional growth.
He also highlighted that Bangladesh has entered a new era where people have high expectations from both the government and professionals. He urged everyone to work diligently to meet these expectations, adding that delivering better services and fostering competitiveness are key to achieving excellence.
After delivering his valuable speech, Selim Uddin handed over crests to the new members of ICSB.
Past President and Council Member of ICSB Mohammad Sanaullah delivered an informative presentation for the new Members on Chartered Secretary as a Profession.
In his presentation, he discussed about the professional code of conduct of ICSB, ethical principles for CS, professional duties of Chartered Secretaries, good governance, role of governance professionals.
Senior Vice President and President-in-Charge of ICSB M Nurul Alam said that this is a special day for newly registered Members.
On this occasion, he expressed his deepest appreciation to the newly registered Members for attending the programme and achieving the prestigious professional degree Chartered Secretary.
Alam also said that it is the beginning of a new phase, where learning increases in intensity, depth and scope.
He urged the newly registered Members to be the brand ambassador of ICSB and upheld the flag of the CS profession.
At the end, Abul Fazal Mohamed Rubayat, Member of Membership and Registration Committee concluded the session with a vote of thanks to the chief guest, council members and all participants of the programme on behalf of the Institute.
