Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange 
(DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today plunged further due to 
mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, declined by 14.9 points 
and settled at 5,167 points as against 5,182 points in the previous trading 
session. 

Meanwhile, trading activities remained stagnant with market turnover in DSE 
falling further by 5.0 percent to Taka 2.8 billion as against Taka 2.9 
billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Textile (15.6 percent) issues exerted the highest 
turnover, followed by Pharma (14.7 percent) and Bank (13.7 percent) sectors. 

Most of the sectors displayed dismal returns, out of which Paper (-1.2 
percent), IT (-0.6 percent) and Mutual Fund (-0.5 percent) exerted the most 
correction while Services (0.9 percent), Jute (0.2 percent) and Telecom (0.2 
percent) exhibited marginal gains on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 126 advanced, 177 declined and 94 remained 
unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The selected indices 
(CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) were declined by 44.4 and 66.9 
points, respectively.
