DHAKA, Dec 10, 2024 (BSS) - Stock markets today finished the session of the week flat amid lower activities of large-cap securities.
DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), edged down by 0.1 points and settled at 5,166.8 points as against 5,167.0 points in the previous trading session.
Market analysts observed that the market saw mixed reactions as the session began with an upbeat momentum as bargain hunters opted to take positions in the beaten-down issues, but risk-averse investors' subsequent cautious selling approach amidst an uncertain market momentum eroded the early session optimism.
Meanwhile, market turnover in DSE slightly increased by 37.5 percent to Taka 3.8 billion as against Taka 2.8 billion in the previous session.
On the sectoral front, Textile (17.9 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (16.2 percent) and Bank (11.4 percent) sectors.
Most of the sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Paper (-0.9 percent), IT (-0.8 percent) and Life Insurance (-0.7 percent) exerted the most correction, while Jute (3.0 percent), General Insurance (2.1 percent) and Mutual Fund (0.9 percent) exhibited the most gains on the bourse today.
Out of the 397 issues traded, 181 advanced, 142 declined and 74 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 16.1 and 31.8 points, respectively.
