Spontaneous VAT payment vital to strengthen the economy

RANGPUR, Dec 11, 2024 (BSS) - Spontaneous Value Added Tax (VAT) payment by
the industrialists, businesspersons and consumers is vital to strengthen the
national economy and accelerate development for building a prosperous nation.

The opinion came at a discussion organised by the Divisional Customs, Excise
and VAT Commissionerate on Tuesday afternoon at its conference room here in
observance of the National VAT Day and VAT Week- 2024.
 
With Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rangpur Dr Abu
Nur Rashed Ahmed in the chair, Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md
Abdus Sabur Khan attended the occasion as the chief guest.
 
President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Akbar Ali and Acting
President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Golam
Zakaria Pintu were present as special guests.

Additional Commissioner of the Customs Excise & VAT Commissionerate, Rangpur
Md Ziaur Rahman Khan delivered the welcome speech while Joint Commissioner
Shaheed Ahmed presented the keynote paper at the event.
 
The speakers emphasized on making the VAT system fully online-based and
structural reforms to get the full benefits of it on the occasion of VAT Day
and VAT Week. The National Board of Revenue is working towards this goal.
 
Dr Abu Nur Rashed Ahmed said that one of the driving forces of development is
revenue. The maximum share of internal revenue is being collected from VAT.
 
"If all stakeholders are to be involved in revenue collection and the nation
is to become prosperous, there is no alternative to modernizing the VAT
system," he said.
 
In order to create good governance, integrity, a just society and a better
working environment, the current revenue administration hopes to introduce a
100 percent online-based VAT system.

"Through the online-based VAT system, the respected taxpayers can easily
receive all the necessary services in a paperless and complaint-free
business-friendly environment," he added.
