Bangladesh, Malaysia to work for Halal products

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS)- Officials from Bangladesh and Malaysia have expressed their determination to work together to expand the market for 'Halal products' and develop the 'Halal ecosystem'.

They came up with the interest at a meeting of the Islamic Foundation (IF)'s Halal Certification Department with the delegation of 'Serunai' Malaysia and the Islamic Development Bank at the IF's head office here today, a press release said.

IF Director General Md Saiful Islam inaugurated the meeting, the release added.

The meeting discussed various aspects of the 'Reverse Linkage Project' between Bangladesh and Malaysia for the development of the 'Diagnostic Mission Halal Ecosystem'.

The speakers said that the project will enrich the existing Halal ecosystem in Bangladesh and expand the Halal market by identifying opportunities for cooperation through the exchange of relevant knowledge, technology and expertise from Malaysia and Bangladesh, exploring potential trade and investment between the two countries.

Speakers said that the two countries also believed that this project will play an important role in enhancing the efficiency of the Islamic Foundation in issuing Halal certificates.

They opined that the reverse linkage project will also be able to play an important role in accelerating the development of the Halal ecosystem through interconnection between countries.

Deputy Director of Halal Certification Department of IF Dr Md Abu Saleh Patwary presented the key note paper in the meeting.

Head of Serunai Halal Centre of Excellence Mohd Jabal, Manager of Serunai Halal Centre of Excellence Nabil Zarini and Representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Economic Relations Division, National Board of Revenue, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Islami Bank Bangladesh and Islamic Foundation were also present.
