Stocks rebound on both bourses

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2024 (BSS) - After witnessing a downward trend in the last six
sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges
as bargain hunters chose to take positions in the beaten-down scrips
following consecutive sessions of corrections in the previous week.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, advanced by 73.4 points
and settled at 5,179 points as against 5,105 points in the previous trading
session.

Market analysts observed that the indices followed an uptrend throughout the
session as buyers remained predominant across the trading floor as
opportunistic investors sought to take positions in particular scrips that
had undergone significant corrections.

However, cautious investors preferred to remain watchful of the market's
trend due to prevailing worries regarding the market momentum while trading
activities were stagnant, with total market turnover decreasing by 13.5
percent to Taka 3.0 billion as against Taka 3.5 billion in the previous
session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (33.0 percent) issues exerted the highest
turnover, followed by Textile (11.6 percent) and Bank (8.9 percent) sectors.

Most of the sectors displayed positive returns, out of which Pharma (2.7
percent), Jute (1.5 percent) and Mutual Fund (1.5 percent) exerted the most
gains while only Cement (-0.3 percent) exerted marginal corrections on the
bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 230 advanced, 89 declined and 78 remained
unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on green terrain. The selected
indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 87.3 and 129.9
points, respectively.
