Govt to procure 2 cargos LNG, 1,20,000 MTs of fertilizer

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2024 (BSS) - The government today approved separate
proposals for procuring two cargos of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and
1,20,000 Metric Tons (MTs)of fertilizer to meet the country's growing
demand.

The approvals came from the 17th meeting of the Advisers
Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held here at the
Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat in the
city.

Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.

Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division,
Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S
Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, Switzerland through
international quotation process with around Taka 672.23 crore with per
MMBtu LNG costing $14.25.

In another proposal, the Petrobangla would procure from the spot
market from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, Switzerland
through international quotation process with around Taka 654.30 crore
where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.87.

Besides, in a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh
Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 MTs
of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Qatar Energy Marketing, Qatar
under the 7th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Taka 122.15
crore with per ton fertilizer costing $339.33.

Following another proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the BCIC
would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer from
Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) under the 9th lot for
the fiscal year (FY25) with around Taka 120.19 crore with per ton
fertilizer costing $333.88.

In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the
BCIC would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer
from SABIC Agri-nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia under the 13th lot for
the fiscal year (FY25) with around Taka 122.15 crore with per ton
fertilizer costing $339.33.


Besides, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under
the Ministry of Agriculture would procure 30,000 metric tons of TSP
fertilizer under state-level agreement from OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco
with around Taka 152.46 crore where per ton fertilizer would cost
$423.50.
