DHAKA, June 30, 2021 (BSS) - Sirajganj Economic Zone (EZ) Limited, a private economic zone operating company licensed by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), has allotted land to 14 investors.
Besides, ‘Detail Engineering Plan’ agreement for Sirajganj EZ has also been signed with Japan Development Institute (JDI).
The deals were signed on Wednesday afternoon at a ceremony at the BEZA headquarters in the capital, said a press release.
BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the agreement signing ceremony.
In his speech, Paban Chowdhury said that BEZA is working to establish 100 economic zones across the country under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In these economic zones, BEZA is very much committed to create an investment-friendly environment through incorporating state-of-the-art technology, he added.
Under the agreements, Sirajganj EZ has allocated 5 acres land for Apex Footwear Limited, 8 acres land for Continental Garments Industries (Private) Limited, 2 acres land for Dynamic Dredging, 8 acres land for Neet Asia Limited, 4 acres land for MK Chemical Industries Limited, 5 acres for Ratul Fabric Limited, 2 acres for Active Composite Mills Limited, 10 acres for Rising Holdings Limited, 5 acres for Rising Spinning Mills Limited, 16 acres for Jessore Feed Limited, 21 acres for Merina Properties (BD) Limited, 5 acres for Text Town Limited, 12 acres for Square Accessories Limited and 7 acres land for Square Electronics Limited.
JDI will provide engineering support for land development in Sirajganj EZ.
Among others, Chairman of the Sirajganj EZ A Matin Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
In his speech, Matin Chowdhury said the economic zone is being developed with private initiative on the bank of the Jamuna River in a natural landscape environment with all of the necessary privileges for setting up of any heavy industries.
The EZ is hosting textile and knitwear, food processing, pharmaceuticals, leather, automobile engineering, LPG manufacturing, steel manufacturing, and fisheries and ship building industries, he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Sirajganj Economic Zone, the largest private industrial park in the country’s northern region, on April 3, 2019 last. A consortium of 11 renowned companies has been developing the largest private economic zone on 1035.93 acres of land and it will also be the country’s largest economic zone.
The Sirajganj EZ is directly connected to the northern part of the country by road, river, rail, and air links.
It is also connected to neighbouring countries India, Nepal, and Bhutan by the Burimari, Hili, and Banglabandha land ports.
It is expected that the zone will create jobs for 500,000 people, and bring a lot of foreign investment for the private sector of Bangladesh.
