Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2024 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) today plunged further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.
 
 DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, edged down by 1.5 points and settled at 5,169 points as against 5,171 points in the previous trading session. 
 
Meanwhile, trading activities also remained stagnant with market turnover in DSE falling below the TK 3bn-mark after 2 weeks, decreasing by 9.1% to TK 2.8 billion as against TK  3.0 billion in the previous session. 
 
On the sectoral front, Pharma (17.3%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (15.7%) and Engineering (11.5%) sectors. Most of the sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Jute (-11%), Life Insurance (-1.0%) and Financial Institution (-0.9%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while Tannery (1.1%), IT (0.9%) and Bank (0.5%) exhibited marginal gains. 
 
Out of the 397 issues traded, 149 advanced, 159 declined and 89 remained unchanged. 
 
The port city bourse, CSE, however, settled on green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 15.9 and 34.6 points respectively.
