Stocks end year on positive note

DHAKA, Dec 30, 2024 (BSS) – Stocks today ended the final trading session of the year by extending its gaining streak for three consecutive days owing to portfolio rebalancing ahead of the year-end.
 
DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, gained 11.7 points or 0.2% to settle at 5,216 points, as against 5,205 points in the previous trading session.
 
Market analysts observed that the market witnessed a range-bound trading session today with investors being active on both sides of the trading fence to grab the realm of the market momentum.
 
However, price appreciation of particular large-cap scrips pulled up the indices further to settle in the positive territory for another session and ended the year a positive note.
 
Nevertheless, market participation remained flat as market turnover declined slightly by 0.1% to Taka 3.7 billion.
 
On the sectoral front, Pharma (17.0%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (14.5%) and Food (11.3%) sectors. All the sectors displayed positive returns, out of which Food (1.4%), Mutual Fund (0.9%) and Cement (0.7%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today.
 
Out of the 397 issues traded, 141 advanced, 183 declined and 73 remained unchanged.
 
The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed upward trend with all Share Price Index (CASPI) inched up by 1.8 points to close at 14473.34.
