Stocks flat as large-cap issues tumble

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) - Stock markets today finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed no significant rise amid lower activities of large-cap securities. 

The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreased by 3.64 points to settle at 5,126.42. The blue-chip index DS30, comprising 30 leading companies, increased by 2.17 points to 1,897, while the DSES Index, representing Shariah-compliant companies, decreased by 4.69 points to 1,145.48 at the 
end.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.28 billion, down 4.57 per cent from the previous trading day.

The majority of the stocks saw a price increase, as out of the 402 issues traded, 173 closed higher, 152 ended lower, and 77 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BRAC Bank was the most traded stock, with shares worth Tk 137.94 million changing hands, followed by ADN Telecom, Orion Infusion, Agni Systems and Asiatic Laboratories.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended up with its All Share Price Index (CASPI) increasing by 22 points to settle at 14,376 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) increasing by 12.47 points to settle at 8749.75.

The port city bourse traded 4.07 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover volume of Tk 102.85 million.
