Govt to procure rock phosphate, fertilizer, rice, LNG

DHAKA, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some 30,000 Metric Tons (MTs) of rock phosphate, 30,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer, 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice and one cargo LNG to meet the growing demands of the country.

The approvals came from the 7th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP), held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat with adviser to the interim government on the ministries of Education and Planning Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud in the chair.

 Following a proposal of the Ministry of Industries,  the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 MTs of rock phosphate for TSPCL from M/s Zentrade FZE, UAE (Manufacturer: OCP S.A., Morocco) with around Taka 82.26 crore with per MT rock phosphate costing US$228.50.

In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 30,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer under state-level agreement from JSC "Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)" of Russia with around Taka 107.78 crore where per MT fertilizer would cost $294.50.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would procure some 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Agrocrop International Pte Ltd, Singapore under international Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 265.20 crore where per MT rice would cost $434.77.
In response to another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S OQ Trading Limited, UAE through international quotation process with around Taka 779.39 crore with per MMBtu LNG costing $16.77.
