Local textile industry has a rich history: Ctg mayor

CHATTOGRAM, March 6, 2025 (BSS) – Terming  the local textile industry to have a rich history, City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said the market for local products is shrinking due to modern fashion technology.

“If we all are interested in local products, then this industry will develop further and our economy will be strengthened,” he added.

Dr Shahadat said this while inaugurating the Eid Textile, Jamdani and Small Industries Fair on Thursday at the GEC Convention Center marking the holy month of Ramadan.

Local Jamdani, handicrafts, various types of clothing and small industries products will be displayed and sold at the fair. The fair will run from 10 am to 10 pm every day.

Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said Jamdani is a symbol of our pride, which is closely related to Bengali culture and heritage.

“This art is not just a craft, but it is a reflection of the creativity of our ancestors. To keep the Jamdani art alive, we all have to work together,” he added.

He urged all to be aware of the development and expansion of local looms and small industries.

The city mayor said everyone must come forward to save the local textile and cottage industries by increasing the use of local products.

Fair organizer Md. Zahir Alam, city BNP Joint Convener Md. Shah Alam, Chattogram Sessions Judge Court Divisional PP Advocate Kamrul Islam Sazzad, among others, were also present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony.
