Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, declined by 16.5 points to settle at 5,205 points, as against 5,222 points in the previous trading session.

Market indices observed a downward trend for most of today’s session as sellers remained on the dominant side, causing the majority of scrips to slide into red territory.

However, market turnover increased by 12.7% to a 3-week high of Taka 5.1 billion as against Taka 4.5 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (14.6%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (13.1%) and Engineering (11.9%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which General Insurance (-1.5%), Financial Institution (-1.0%) and Life Insurance (-1.0%) exerted the most corrections, while Paper (1.9%), Ceramic (0.3%) and Mutual Fund (0.1%) exhibited marginal gains on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 94 advanced, 221 declined and 82 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 10.2 points and 27.2 points, respectively.
