Govt to procure LNG, fertiliser, rice to meet growing demand

DHAKA, March 27, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved separate 
proposals for procuring two cargos of LNG, 70,000 tonnes of fertiliser and 
50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati boiled rice in a bid to meet the growing demand 
of the country.

The approval was given at the meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on 
Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at 
Secretariat with Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

According to the approval, Petrobangla will procure one cargo LNG from M/S 
Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd through international quotation at a cost of Taka 
675.28 crore where per MMBtu LNG will cost US$14.08.

Petrobangla will procure another cargo LNG from M/S Total Energies Gas and 
Power Limited, the United Kingdom (UK) through international quotation with 
around Taka 691.59 crore where per MMBtu LNG will cost $14.42.

Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 30,000 
tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russian JSC Foreign 
Economic Corporation "Prodintorg" under state-level agreement with around 
Taka 112.13 crore.

BADC will also procure 40,000 tonnes of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) fertiliser 
from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia under state-level agreement at a cost of Taka 
306.22 crore.

The Directorate General of Food will procure 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati 
boiled rice from M/S Bagadiya Brothers Private Limited, India through 
international Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 259.10 crore.
