RANGPUR, March 19, 2022 (BSS) – The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling essential items at subsidized rate among 2,83,312 low-income group families of the district ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan tomorrow.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Asib Ahsan disclosed it at a press conference at his conference room here this afternoon.
“Preparation and distribution of ‘Family Card’ among the selected beneficiary families of all 76 unions in eight upazilas, three municipalities and Rangpur City Corporation has already been completed in the district,” he said.
Under strict supervision of the local administrations, the TCB dealers will sell the essential items using trucks from March 20 and continue until March 30 in the first phase and from April 3 to continue until
April 20 next across the district as elsewhere in the country.
A consumer would be able to take a maximum 2 kgs of sugar at Taka 55 per kg, 2 liters of soybean oil at Taka 110 per liter, 2 kgs of lentil at Taka 65 per kg and 2kgs of chickpea (gram) at Taka 50 per kg.
The government through the TCB under the Ministry of Commerce will provide essential items to the poorer section of people at affordable prices marking the holy month of Ramadan so that they can get some relief and celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr comfortably.
Under the program, 566.624 tonnes of sugar and chickpea each and 566.624 liters of soyabean oil will be sold among 2,83,312 ‘Family Card’ holder low-income group families through 135 dealers at 222 spots across the district in the two phases.
“A ‘Family Card’ holder family would be able to buy 2 kgs of sugar, 2 kgs of chickpea and 2 litres of soybean oil at a total cost of Taka 460 in the first phase and 2 kgs of sugar, 2 kgs of lentil and 2 kgs of chickpea and 2 litres of soybean oil at Taka 560 in the second phase,” the DC said.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate selling of the essential commodities in the first phase at a function at Balapara union in Kawnia upazila of Rangpur tomorrow.
“Besides, Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan and Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahamn Mostafa will launch selling of the TCB essentials at Rangpur Diabetic Samity premises in the city tomorrow,” he said.
