BJMC closed mills to reopen in phases: Golam Dastgir


 
CHATTOGRAM, Sept 14, 2022 (BSS) - Jute and Textiles Minister Golam Dastgir
Gazi Birpratik, MP said all closed mills under Bangladesh Jute Mill
Corporation (BJMC) will be opened in phases.
 
"The rental-based mills of BJMC have started production and export of jute
products under private management. These mills have created new employment
opportunities for many people in the country," he said.
 
Golam Dastgir Gazi said this while talking to the journalists after visiting
the city's Amin Jute Mill this afternoon.

The Minister said three jute mills - Bangladesh Jute Mills Ltd, in Narsingdi,
KFD Jute Mills Ltd in Chattogram and National Jute Mill at Sirajganj have
already been given rental-basis leasing.
 
"The leasing activities of other three jute mills are also undergoing," he
added.
 
The Jute and Textiles Minister expressed hope that many new employment
opportunities will be created in the leased mills and the early terminated
workers are getting priority in this regard.
 
Senior officials of the BJMC Chattogram division accompanied the minister
during the visit.
 
It may be mentioned that the government has announced the closure of the
production activities of 25 state-owned jute mills under the control of BJMC
from July 1, 2020, in order to find a permanent solution to the existing
situation of jute mills and to revive the jute sector.
