NARAIL, Dec 31, 2022 (BSS) - A woman and her minor son drowned after a boat capsized in the River Nabaganga under Kalia upazila of the district last night.

The deceased were identified as Nazma Begum, 25, wife of Abdul Jalil and their son Nasim, 4. They were the residents at Babupur village in the upazila.
 
Kalia Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Tasmeem Alam confirmed.

He said the incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Friday night in Bahirdanga Ghat area. The boat could have sunk as it was carrying more people that its capacity. Ten passengers were able to reach the river bank while four went missing in this accident, he added.

Divers are conducting rescue operations in the River Nabaganga. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman visited the spot today expressed his sadness at the incident.

A case was filed with Kalia Thana in this connection.
