GAIBANDHA, JAN 17, 2023 (BSS)- Zila Parishad (ZP) Chairman and president of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique formally handed over the blankets sanctioned for 17 union parishads and one municipality of Gobindaganj upazila in the district on Monday.

In this regard, a function was also held on the premises of Duk Bungalow of the upazila town in the afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion ZP chairman Abu Bakar Siddique said Zila parishad is determined to lessen the sufferings of the poor people.  So an initiative has been taken to distribute blankets to the distressed and poor people of the upazila to mitigate their sufferings through union parishads.

He also urged the local government bodies to disburse the blankets to the cold victims properly to enhance the image of the Zila Parishad as well as the government.  

Former lawmaker Principal Abul Kalam Azad, upazila chairman and president of upazila  Awami League Abdul Latif Prodhan, general secretary Mokaddes Ali Badu, UNO Arif Hossain, mayor of Gobindaganj municipality Muketur Rahman Rafi, political leaders and Union parishad chairmen and members were present on the occasion.

According to division, the municipality and the unions each received 150 blankets from the ZP, sources said.
