KHULNA, Feb 13, 2023 BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a lawyer from the New Market area in the capital last night on a charge of trying to violate a female student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), Gopalganj.

The arrested was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 45, son of Samsul Haque, a residence of the Pachuria area under Gopalganj Sadar police station.

A RAB team conducted an operation in the Dhaka New Market area and arrested Alamgir for using information and technology yesterday, said a press release today.

Alamgir introduced himself as a lawyer to the victim while on transport at Gopalganj three months back. He took the mobile number of the victim saying he is in need of a private tutor for his children.

On February 10, lawyer Alamgir called the victim to his residence located in the Pachuria area in the town over a mobile phone regarding private tuition.

When the victim went there, the lawyer tried to violate her by offering money. But the girl managed to come out of the house and sought the locals' help.

The Deputy Registrar of the university filed a case with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station after receiving a complaint from the victim.

Centring the incident, students, teachers, officers and employees of the university organized a human chain on the Dhaka-Gopalganj highway yesterday demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminal, the RAB press release added.
