Youths' role significant to combat violent extremism, drug-addiction

   RAJSHAHI, Feb 16, 2023 (BSS)- Spontaneous role of youths, particularly students, is very significant to rid the society of violent extremism, drug abuse and terrorism.

   Similarly, integrated efforts by the police and common people, including students, could help to root out social menaces, like child marriage and violence against women.

   Police personnel and development activists came up with the observation while addressing a huge youths' rally styled "Role of Young Generation towards Preventing Violent Extremism and Drug-addiction" at Baneshwar Government Degree College under Puthiya Upazila in the district today.

   The Asia Foundation (TAF) and Manob Kalyan Parishad (MKP) jointly organised the rally supported by the 'Police Engagement Approach for Countering Extremism - PEACE' project.

   Additional Superintendents of Police Ifte Khayer Alam and Razibul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sharmin Akter and Police Inspectors Nazmul Haque, Faruque Hossain and Mainul Basher addressed the rally as resource persons.

   Principal of Baneshwar College Ekramul Haque, TAF Country Director Kazi Faisal Bin Siraj, Senior Programme Officer Joynal Abedeen and Programme Officer Safiul Awal also spoke on the occasion. Around 500 students from different institutions in the area and members of youth organizations joined the meeting.
