JHALOKATHI, March 7, 2023 (BSS) - The historic March 7 was observed in the district as elsewhere of the country today in a befitting manner, commemorating the landmark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was touted as an indirect declaration of the country's independence in 1971.
Marking the day, the district administration, district unit of Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and many other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes.
On the occasion of the day, hoisting of the national flag, wreath laying and discussions programmes were organized by the district administration.
In the morning, Awami League Advisory Council member and 14-Party alliance coordinator and spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Farah Gul Nijhum, Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul and representatives of various organizations placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office of the town here in phases.
The programme was followed by a discussion held at the hall room of the Zilla Shilpakala Academy in the district town this morning on the importance of the day March 7 with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Farah Gul Nijhum in the chair.
Amu addressed the meeting as the chief guest, Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul and Bir Muktijoddha Manowar Hossain Khan, among others, spoke at the event.
The chief guest said, “Bangabandhu's speech of March 7 is an immortal poem. No leader in the world has ever given such an unscripted speech to a million people. This speech of the father of the nation made the freedom-loving people of this country stand in one line, transformed the unarmed people into an armed nation and rushed towards the armed struggle. This speech of March 7 will remain as one of the best speeches in the world for centuries and will serve as a source of inspiration for the young generation of this country’’.
District Awami League (AL) president Sardar Md Shah Alam, Zilla Parishad Chairman and District Awami League General Secretary Advocate Khan Saifullah Panir, Sadar Upazila Chairman Khan Arifur Rahman, Municipal Mayor Liaquat Ali Talukder, among others, were present.
The speakers said the 7th March speech of Bangabandhu had a sparkling effect on the entire population in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and they became united under his efficient leadership to bravely fight for liberating the motherland from Pakistani rule.
