National Mourning Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 15, 2021 (BSS) - Various government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions today observed the National Mourning Day and 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Khulna in a befitting manner here.
 
Khulna city and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-organisations and different other political parties also observed the day.
 
The day was begun with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.
 
Three people from each government, semi-government and organisations placed wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu at Khulna Betar premises around 8.30 am maintaining social distance.
 
Mourning rallies have been cancelled while  virtual discussion meetings, doa mahfil was held this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
 
Freedom fighters, government high officials and leaders of civil society, among others, also placed wreaths at the potrait of Bangabandhu.
 
Distribution of food among the destitute and screening of film show on life and works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious institutions were also held maintaining social distance.
 
Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, Hamd and Naat and recitation of poems, discussions focusing the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and national history was arranged in the educational institutions and other places.
 
Khulna District Administration organised a discussion meeting while the Directorate of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, Art, Hamd, Naat and Poem recitation competition and cheque distributed among freedom fighters at DC’s conference room.
 
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Ismail Hossain addressed the meeting as the chief guest while deputy commissioner Moniruzzaman Talukder was in the chair.
 
Besides, Khulna district administration arranged the holy Quran recitation and distributed foodstuffs and other ingredients to orphanages of different madrasas and orphanage institutions.                                                                  
Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna District Information Office, Press Information Department (PID), Islamic Foundation, Khulna WASA, OZOPADICO, Sundarban Gas Company Ltd, Khulna Betar, Khulna Civil Surgeon Office, Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Swadhinata Sangbadik (Journalists) Forum, Mongla Port Authority (MPA), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Khulna Range, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and other organisations observed the same programme separately marking the day maintaining social distance. The organisations also planted saplings marking the day.
