28,000 farmers to get incentive for Aush, Jute cultivation in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, March 30, 2023 (BSS) - A total of 28,000 small and marginal farmers in five upazilas of the district will get seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agro incentive for the cultivation of Aush paddy and Jute in the current Kharif-1 season.

To increase the interest of farmers in Aush paddy and Jute cultivation, the amount of incentive support and the number of farmers have been increased significantly in the current financial year 2022-23 in the district, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Abdul Quader Sardar said.

He said that one kg jute seeds will be distributed among 18,000 farmers in five upazilas of the district each and five kilograms of Aush paddy seed, 10 kgs of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and 10 kgs of Muriate of potash (MOP) fertilizer each will given free of cost for cultivating one bigha of land among the 10000 farmers.

Among them, 3500 farmers of Sadar Upazila, 7000 farmers of Muksudpur Upazila, 4500 farmers of Kashiani Upazila, 1500 farmers of Kotalipara Upazila and 1500 farmers of Tungipara Upazila will get jute seeds.

Besides, 2400 farmers of Sadar Upazila, 1400 farmers of Muksudpur Upazila, 2000 farmers of Kashiani Upazila, 2200 farmers of Kotalipara Upazila and 2000 farmers of Tungipara Upazila will get 5 kg of Aush paddy seeds and 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP fertilizer each farmer free of cost.

The distribution of the seeds and fertilizers has already started from the concerned Upazila Agriculture Office, he said.

Agriculturist Mafroza Akhter, Agricultural Officer of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said that seeds and fertilizers have already been distributed to 5900 farmers free of cost under the incentive and rehabilitation program among small and marginal farmers in order to increase the production of jute and Aush paddy crops in Kharip-1 season.
