2,789 tonnes of VGF rice being distributed in Rangpur

 RANGPUR, April 17, 2023 (BSS) - The government is distributing 2,789.45 tonnes of rice to 2,78,945 poor families as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) program to assist them celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
 
"Distribution of the VGF rice to selected card holder beneficiary families with 10-kg of rice each continues smoothly and will complete before the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity across the district," said District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Md. Motahar Hossain.

 Earlier, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the rice for distribution among the poor and distressed families of all 76 unions and three municipalities in eight upazilas of the district. 
 
The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are distributing the rice among the listed VGF card holder families ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity. 

 Under the program, 15,602 VGF card holder families will receive 156.02 tonnes of rice in Sadar, 68,584 families will get 685.84 tonnes in Mithapukur, 38,132 families will get 381.32 tonnes in Pirganj and 48,511 families will get 485.11 tonnes of rice in Pirgachha upazilas. 

 Besides, 27,665 families will receive 276.65 tonnes of VGF rice in Kawnia, 42,938 families will get 429.38 tonnes in Gangachara, 23,847 families will get 238.47 tonnes in Badarganj and 13,666 families will receive 136.66 tonnes of rice in Taraganj upazilas. 

 In addition to this, 30.81 tonnes of VGF rice will be distributed to 3,081 card holder families each in Badarganj and Pirganj municipalities and 15.40 tonnes of rice will be distributed to 1,540 families in Haragachh municipality. 

 
Talking to BSS, Chairman Amenur Rahman of Chandanpat union in Sadar upazila today said he completed distribution of 30.59 tonnes of VGF rice to 3,559 families of his union in a function held at the union parishad office premises on Sunday.

 Tag Officer for Chandanpat union and Sadar Upazila Cooperative Officer Md. Masud Rana, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Abdul Matin and all members of the union parishad and local elite were present on the occasion. 

 Chairman Masud Rana of Saddyapuskorini Union in Sadar upazila said he also completed distribution of 36.46 tonnes of VGF rice to 3,646 selected card holder poor families of his union.

 Talking to BSS, beneficiaries Aklima, Nur Nahar, Sohrab Hossain, Manik Mian and Gul Nahar Begum of different villages in Sadar upazila thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after getting 10-kg of VGF rice each before the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
