GAIBANDHA, April 26, 2023 (BSS) - International Noise Awareness Day-2023 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to raise awareness among the people about bad impacts of noise on the health and welfare of the people.
This year’s theme of the day is “Protect Your Hearing, Protect Your Health”.
Marking the day, the district administration chalked elaborate programmes in association with the Department of Environment, Ragpur Office.
In the morning, around 10 AM, a grand rally was brought out from the premise of District Collectorate Building and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the district town.
Later, a discussion on the importance of the day was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office with Additional District Magistrate Md Jahid Hasan Siddique in the chair.
DC Md. Oliur Rahman attended the function and addressed it as chief guest.
Additional Police Super Mohammd Ibrahim, Senior Chemist of the department Md. Hossain-e-Mubarak, District Fisheries Officer Foysal Azam, Secretary of Rover-Scouts, district unit Uzzal Chakraborty, Public Relations Officer of SKS Foundation Ashraful Alamand representative of GUK Sumon Miah.
The speakers said the level of sound pollution also termed as noise pollution has become a major concern for the general people as it has exceeded the tolerance level.
As a result, the common people o the society have been facing health hazards including deafness and heart attacks.
DC Oliur Rahman said that time has come to take necessary measures to keep the noise level within the acceptable limits.
In this context, the DC underscored the need for taking integrated efforts of all quarters including the government and non-government organizations, socio-cultural organizations to work together to reduce the noise level so that the people can build noise pollution free society. He also emphasized for lunching of social movement in this regard.
A good number of students, teachers, social workers and journalists took part in the programmes.
