BHOLA, May 1, 2023 (BSS) - The historic May Day was observed in the district like other parts of the country and elsewhere across the world in a befitting manner.
The day is being observed across the globe since 1886 commemorating the supreme sacrifices of the workers at Hay Market, Chicago, in the USA for eight-hour working day and upholding the rights of the working people.
To press home their demands, working people had to sacrifice their valuable lives in tragic bomb attacks and police atrocities on May 1, 1886 and the following days.
This year's theme of the day was 'Sramik-Malik Oikyo Gori, Smart Bangladesh Gorey Tuli' (Let us forge worker-owner unity and build smart Bangladesh).
On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the deputy commissioner office this morning and ended in the conference room of the deputy commissioner office after parading main streets of the district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Taufiq-e-Lahi Chowdhury presided over the discussion.
Deputy Director of local government department Bivek Sarkar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ripon Kumar Saha, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Asaduzzaman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Tauhidul Islam, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Moniruzzaman Ahmed, Executive Magistrate Md. Jasimuddin, among others, spoke.
The speakers said, today is the day of sacrifice for the rights of the working people of the world. This day of sacrifice of workers for the rights of working people is being celebrated as May Day all over the world. It is not possible to establish a democratic social system without the dignity of labor. The role of working people is very important in our socio-economic development.
