BHOLA, May 11, 2023 (BSS) - A total of 746 shelters have been kept ready in the district to deal with cyclone 'Mocha'.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Taufiq-e-Lahi Chowdhury said that the government has opened 746 cyclone shelters in the district so that people can take shelter if needed.
There will be 18,600 volunteers in the field and 98 medical teams have been formed. Eight control rooms are being opened in seven upazilas of the district.
Chowdhury gave this information at the meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee this afternoon.
The DC said that three levels of preparations have been made by the district administration to deal with Mocha. These are pre-disaster, disaster and post-disaster preparations.
A total of 13,600 CPP volunteers and 5,000 Red Crescent Society workers are on the ground. Fishermen are being asked to return safely. Already 90 percent of the fishermen have returned to the ghat. Besides, about 90 percent of the field has been harvested and the rest will be harvested by tomorrow.
He also said that the medical team with water purification tablets is ready and 21 medical teams have been formed to protect the livestock of the district. All types of emergency services are available 24 hours a day.
Water Development Board is working to protect our dams. We will all work together to face the upcoming natural disasters. The district administration will try its best to keep the amount of damage to the minimum, he said.
Executive Engineer of Water Development Board, Bhola Md Hasanuzzaman said that the board has 334 km of flood control dams in the district. Vulnerable areas have already been repaired.
The dams that appear to be at risk are still under construction. At the same time, we are constantly monitoring the dams in the river bank area. Everyone is on alert.

Saiful Islam, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Md Hasanuzzaman, District Livestock Officer Indrajit Kumar, Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Department Md. Hasan Warisul Kabir, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Tauhidul Islam, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Delowar Hossain, Deputy Director of District Cyclone Preparedness Programme Abdur Rashid and Red Crescent Society General Secretary Azizul Islam, among others, were present.
