RAJSHAHI, May 17, 2023 (BSS)- A sexagenarian man has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison on charge of violating chastity of a minor girl in the district around five years back.

Judge of Women and Children Prevention Tribunal-2 Muhammad Hasanuzzaman found the person guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of him in the court Tuesday.

The tribunal also fined the convict identified as Shahjahan Ali, 60, a resident of Kangari village under Charghat Upazila, Taka one lakh, in default, to suffer three months more behind the bar.

Referring to the prosecution story, Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Shamsunnahar Mukti said the accused used to teach the girl Arabic. At one stage, he took the girl to a nearly secluded place and raped her on December 21, 2018. He also warned the victim not to disclose the matter to anyone.

 Subsequently, a case was lodged with Charghat Police Station. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing Shahjahan.

 The tribunal examined the recorded depositions of enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence and handed down the verdict.
