RANGPUR, June 13, 2023 (BSS) - Rangpur will be turned into a well-planned smart and modern industrial city where all civic amenities, clean environment and employment and income opportunities will be ensured to improve the quality of life of people.
Additional Secretary (Admin) of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md. Oliullah said this while addressing a meeting with stakeholders on the draft of the Rangpur Development Authority (RDA) Act on Monday afternoon as the chief guest.
Divisional Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman presided over the views-sharing meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
The district administration in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Public Works organized the event participated by officials of government departments, Rangpur City Corporation and other organisations, politicians, civil society members and local elite.
Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nur Alam Mina, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Rangpur District Council Chairman heroic freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Kabir and other participants took part in the discussion.
They forwarded suggestions on the draft of the Rangpur Development Authority Act that is being established to maintain the geo-natural environment of Rangpur, prevent unplanned urbanization, development of tourism industry and ensuring better citizen life.
The chief guest said formation of the Rangpur Development Authority will help to determine and conserve land and its status for public and private organisations, residential and commercial areas, nature of the air, water, rail, road and highway traffic, preservation and supply of water, waste sewerage and sewage disposal through implementation of the master plan.
"To implement the plan, identification, positioning and use of land for the future, zoning, earthquake sensitivity, conservation of land following natural landscape, power generation, transmission and distribution, long-term and modern urban planning and a modern tourism and commercial city will be built," he said.
He put importance on building a smart and modern society to make the future generation smart citizens.
He stressed on creating employment and income opportunities in the future eco-friendly, modern and smart Rangpur city to eradicate poverty and improve the quality of civic life.
