JOYPURHAT, June 17, 2023 (BSS) - A total of 56,668 poor and distressed families of the district will get 566.68 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.

Officials of the district Relief and Rehabilitation said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution among the poor and distressed families in five upazilas and five municipalities of the district.

 "The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families," said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Md. Abdul Karim.

 Md. Abdul Karim said, each of the selected beneficiary families will get 10-kg VGF rice in all five upazila and five municipalities in the district. The distribution process will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Monitoring teams have already been formed in the upazilas and municipalities to carry out these activities with transparency.

The present government started this VGF program with the aim of enabling the poor and helpless people to celebrate Eid with enthusiasm, he added.
