10 Jamaat activists held in Rangpur city

  RANGPUR, Aug 25, 2021 (BSS) - Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP)
arrested 10 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh including its
Kotwali Thana unit Ameer from Dakshin Babukhan area in the city today.

  "Acting on a tip off, a police team from Kotwali police station of
RpMP led by its Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdur Rashid conducted a
raid at the house of Jamaat leader Md Lokman Ali and arrested the 10
persons at 5:45 pm," said a press release.

   Police raided the house after getting information that Jamaat
activists gathered there with the intention of damaging government
resources and installations through planned subversive activities
against the state and the government.

  Around 14 to 15 Jamaat activists, however, managed to escape from
the scene, sensing the presence of police.

   The arrested 10 Jamaat leaders and activists are: Ameer of Kotwali
Thana unit of Jamaat Md Farhad Hossain Mandal, 38, Md Shahanat Mian,
45, Md Lokman Ali, 65, Md Mashiur Rahman, 40, Md Abdul Malek, 30, Md
Mizanur Rahman, 38, Md Mahmudur Rahman, 60, Md Obaidur Rahman, 40, Md
Shariful Islam, 36, and Md Jahangir Alam, 50.

   A case was filed with Kotwali police station tonight.
