GAIBANDHA, July 8, 2023 (BSS)- Three persons, including a couple, were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Baluabazar area on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway under Gobindaganj upazila in the district on Friday night.
 
The deceased were identified as Zahid, 25, and his wife Jharna Begum, 22, of Chalknadi village under Dhaperhat union of Sadullapur upazila and Jahurul Islam, son of Abdul Jobbar of the same village.

 All the dead and injured victims were the passengers of the truck, police said. 

Police and local sources said the accident took place when a Rangpur-bound bus of 'Shyamoli Paribahan' reached the Baluabazar area, then a truck from opposite direction collided head on with the bus, leaving its helper dead on the spot and 17 injured seriously.

Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries at Upazila Health Complex.
 
Police of Gobindaganj Highway Thana, being informed, rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and rescued the injured. 

They also sent the injured to upazila health complex from where the critically injured were sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura for better treatment.
 
Officer-in-charge of the Highway Thana Aminul Islam said the truck was going to Dhaka from Rangpur with passengers after Eid post period. 

The ill-fated vehicles were removed from the highway to keep the traffic movement normal, he also said.
