MANIKGANJ, July 25, 2023 (BSS) -As part of celebration of the National Fisheries Week-2023' a colourful rally was brought out in the district town today.
Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter formally inaugurated the rally which was participated by district level government officials, officers and officials of fishery department, fishermen including elite of the town. After parading the town roads the rally ended at the collectorate premises.
A discussion and prize distribution was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner after the rally.
Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter was present in the discussion under the joint auspices of Manikganj District Administration and Department of Fisheries as the chief guest.
Additional SP Sujan Sarkar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Manikganj Sadar Upazila Jotishwar Paul, Freedom Fighter Momin Uddin Khan, fisherman Bhola Nath Halder and Nepal Halder among others spoke on the occasion.
Chief guest Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter said Bangladesh is now exporting fish to 52 countries in the world as the production of fish increased in the country, adding that the Youths are now engaged in the fish cultivation and most of them are self- reliant. The government has been providing incentives in various sectors for increasing fish production.
Four persons Nepal Halder of Harirampur Upazila, Jahangir Alam of Manikganj Sadar Upazila, Abdul Khalek of Saturia Upazilaand and Sheikh Shahid Ahmed of Ghior Upazila were accorded reception for their contribution in fish production.
Later Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akter released fish fry in the Manikganj Freedom Fighters Complex pond.
The week will be observed till July 30 with a theme of "Nirapad Machhea Varbo Desh, Gorbo Smart Bangladesh (The country will be filled with safe fish, build the Smart Bangladesh)".
