One awarded life-term imprisonment in C'nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Aug 15, 2023 (BSS) - A Chapainawabganj court on Monday

afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment and also fined him Taka
50,000, in default, to suffer two-year more in jail.

The convicted person was Sayem Ali, 20, son of Abdul Malek of Unishbighi
village under Shibganj upazila of the district.

Another accused-- Shahriar Kamal alias Dalim-- of the case was acquitted from
the charges.

Senior Sessions Judge of Chapainawabganj Md. Adeeb Ali pronounced the verdict
in presence of the convict.

According to the prosecution story, acting on a tip-off, a team of the BGB
from 59 battalion conducted a raid in a turmeric field at Namochakpara under
Shahbajpur union of Shibganj upazila and arrested Sayem with 2.852 kilograms
of heroin on December 18, 2020 at night but another person fled away the
scene.

On December 19, 2020, next day of the incident, Nayeb Subedar Renu Mia of the
BGB of Chakpara Border Outpost filed a case against Sayem with the Shibganj
thana.

Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Sub-inspector Md. Nurunnabi of
Shibganj thana submitted charge sheet against Sayem and Dalim to the court on
January 28, 2021.

After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment.
