RAJSHAHI, Aug 21, 2023 (BSS) - Local units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organisations today paid rich tribute to the victims of the heinous August 21 grenade attack at an Awami League rally in 2004 in Dhaka.
The Rajshahi city unit of Awami League placed wreaths on the portraits of the victims at its office premises this morning.
Re-elected mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by other front-ranking leaders of the party placed wreaths.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said there were ill-efforts of erasing the entire Awami League including Sheikh Hasina. Begum Khaleda Zia and her son Tareque Rahman led the attack directly.
He said they will ensure the punishment of fugitive criminal Tareque Rahman after bringing him back to the country as soon as possible.
Rajshahi district unit of the party held a discussion meeting at its office with the unit president Anil Kumar Sarker in the chair. Among others, unit general secretary Abdul Wadud Dara and former state minister Prof Jinatunnessa Talukder addressed the meeting.
Rajshahi University authority held a discussion meeting at its senate building vehemently protesting the barbaric grenade attack.
Vice-chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar Tapu addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Prof Abul Kasem of the department of history spoke as focal person with Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam in the chair.
Treasurer Prof Obayedur Rahman Pramanik also spoke.
