RAJSHAHI, Aug 24, 2023 (BSS) - Two persons were convicted and sentenced to life in prison for possessing 5.23 kilograms of heroin around four years back in the district.

The convicts identified as Nazibur Rahman, 40, and Jewel Islam, 42, both hailed from Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila were also fined Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one month more behind the bar.
 
Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar Saha found them guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, a RAB team arrested them with 5.23 kilograms of heroin from Sarengpur area under Godagari upazila in the district on August 22, 2019.
 
Subsequently, a case was recorded with Godagari Police Station and police pressed charges accusing them upon completion of investigation.

The tribunal examined recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence and handed down the verdict.
Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque conducted the case on behalf of the state.
